Hello Everyone,
We would like to introduce you to Hope for Liberia. The founder, Eli Gbayee, is a survivor of the civil war that devastated innocent Liberians. At 4 years old, Eli became orphaned for nearly a decade, forced to live in a refugee camp. Many days, he was starving, thirsting for clean water, and walking on bare and blistered feet. By God’s grace, Eli escaped death, was reunited with his family and given a chance at life and education in the USA. When he went back to visit Liberia years after the war, Eli felt a burning passion to start a project that would bring his people hope.
SOFM met Eli over the summer through our partnership with New City Fellowship – AC and Hope for Atlantic City.
Hope for Liberia was founded in 2013 after witnessing the neglect of orphans, children, the disabled and the elderly. Their purpose is to assist the people of Liberia with gaining hope and fighting their unfortunate life circumstances. They are especially concerned about the orphans, elderly, and disabled who find themselves struggling to survive as a result of the civil war. Eli’s ministry is now out of Atlantic City, NJ
The mission of Hope for Liberia is to provide the poorest communities of Liberia with food, clothing, potable water, and basis supplies, as well as access to medical care and educational opportunities, which will promote personal development and community involvement.
Help is Needed…
On November 30 Eli is headed back to Liberia for 3 months. Over the past several months his ministry has been collecting and purchasing items to fill a container that is scheduled to ship out on November 20. The container contains items including: clothes, school supplies, shoes, 100-pound bags of rice and 77-gallon barrels packed with needed items that once in Liberia will be used to store water.
Donations are still being collected to cover the shipping costs. As of today approximately half of shipping costs are covered. If you would like to help ship the container to Liberia you can do so by sending a check to their partnering ministry Hope for Atlantic City: [www.hope4ac.org]
